Dear friends of ICEBERG,
A lot has happened since the beginning of ICEBERG in January 2024. We want to express our gratitude for each and every one we have met and worked with during this year.
We are excited to share that the first field season is now over, with successful research conducted in Svalbard, Iceland, and Greenland. Our teams, alongside local communities, have gathered valuable data. Without collaboration this would not have been possible.
The first round of data analysis has already been completed with the first marine litter pollution hotspot maps created. Now, we are gearing up for the next 2025 field season.
We also launched our Community-based Pollution Monitoring Platform, where people are actively contributing by uploading data. A warm thank you to everyone who has already submitted data on the platform. If you live in the Arctic, please share your observations with us!
ICEBERG and its partners have been presenting our work at several international events, including the EU Science Week and the Atlantic & Arctic Lighthouse Weekly Hour. Additionally, ICEBERG is actively contributing to the latest meeting towards the Global Plastic Negotiation Treaty in Busan.
We have also begun an exciting collaboration with our sister projects, ILLUQ and ArcSolution, funded under the same call, further strengthening our collective efforts. We expect the collaboration to continue as our project goes on.
As we approach the end of the year, we want to extend our thanks to all of our partners, collaborators, local friends and supporters for their dedication and hard work. Your contributions have made this year a great success, and we look forward to an even more exciting year ahead.
There are interesting things to come in 2025: a new field season in Svalbard, Iceland and Greenland, developing pollution control strategies together with local communities, creating litter accumulation maps for the three study sites, analysing long-time photo series from time-lapse cameras regarding coastal litter dynamics, starting water quality incubation experiments, advancing analysis of health-related data, launching the first policy brief and much more. Stay tuned for updates and thank you for your continued support!
Wishing you all a peaceful and joyful holiday season and a successful New Year!
